Wings Over Alma

Hi, my name is Karen Gersonde. I am very honored to be part of the Wings Over Alma Art Show this year. I live in the greater Milwaukee area and have lived here all of my life. I am retired from law enforcement and presently enjoying traveling with my husband Robert now that we have free time together. I have taken photos all my life but I never got serious about it until I was diagnosed with cancer back in 2008. I always attended the Wisconsin State Fair and enjoyed seeing all of the winning photos displayed and wondered if my work could be good enough to win. I entered this competition back in 2009 and won 16 ribbons that year. I have never looked back since. I continue to enter the State Fair Photography competition and have won every year. I also have won various other competitions and contests and my photos have been featured in the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Wisconsin Great Waters Calendar and Friends of Wisconsin State Parks Calendar for the past several years. My art work is also on display at the Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center where I am an active member of the Cancer Patient Art Studio. Through art, I mentor other patients battling cancer and help them get through these difficult times.

I am a member of the Menomonee Falls Camera Club which is also part of the Wisconsin Area Camera Club Association. This organization has helped me to hoan my photographic skills but I still consider myself to be an amateur photographer. I enjoy photographing nature and wildlife.
